End of term report 4

Posted on 28 June 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton continues to give his close-season report on players who featured in the reserve over the last term.

John Piercy
He probably had his best spell in the last two months of the season, since the reserve game against Nottingham Forest.

John’s another one who has played in numerous positions, our thoughts have changed with him. Is he going to be a better right winger? He can play in so many positions and the last couple of months we’ve reverted him to where he used to play as an Academy player, which is central midfield. It seems to have stuck with him and he had a very good end to the season. Very good.

It’s probably a position we’d like to see far more of him in next season. Another one who needs regular reserve team football next season.

I think given the time John’s been here, he’s got to be knocking on the door of the first team next season.

Johnnie Jackson
John’s had a difficult season regarding the reserves because he’s fluctuated between under-19s on a Saturday to reserves in the week and then away with England. He’s played an awful lot of games for England under-18s as well.

We asked for progress from him and he has — and he is certainly one of our better young players there is no doubt. He is a left sided player with a lovely left foot.

We look forward to him working with the reserve group and if that comes with England honours next season, great, but the biggest priority is him training with the reserves full-time and then we can see his progress. Certainly over the last couple of seasons he has made big strides, hence, he’s very much a regular for England.

Willem Korsten
Willem is a lad that probably hasn’t shown in the first team what we know he can show with the ability he has.

There are signs and if I look at the last couple of months when he’s played much more, you see a more confident player. He scored sackloads for the reserves and never let me down. He was the top goalscorer and is someone at reserve level who is always going to score goals. Really it’s transferring that form for the reserves to the first team consistently.

No doubt he has the ability — it’s about being more consistent.
