Edinburgh on target for five-star Legends

A well-taken goal from Justin Edinburgh put the seal on a 5-3 win for the Spurs Legends team at sunny Buntingford in Hertfordshire on Sunday.

Edinburgh on target for five-star Legends

The veteran defender got forward to net Tottenham’s fifth goal of the afternoon, adding to Garry Brooke’s first half opener and Micky Jarrett’s hat-trick to send the large crowd home happy.

Paul Miller and John Lacy were also in action for our veterans alongside regulars Mark Falco, Stuart Nethercott and Tony Galvin, as the lads helped to raise money for the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance.

Spurs went ahead after three minutes in bizarre circumstances. Garry Brooke sent in a free kick from wide on the left, but as Justin Edinburgh ran across the goalkeeper’s line of sight, the ball bounced once in the box and crept inside the far post, evading everyone in the area.

Buntingford levelled with a simple tap-in five minutes later, before a delightful Mark Stimson lob was headed off the line by a home defender.

Stimson later crossed for Mark Falco, but the latter fired over the bar, but the Legends finally regained the lead on 27 minutes when Micky Jarrett diverted Falco’s cross into the net.

Jarrett made it 3-1 just two minutes later when his low shot went in via the post, before completing his hat-trick nine minutes after half-time when he ran onto Stimson’s route one pass down the centre of the field and clipped the ball past the committed Buntingford goalkeeper.

The home side pulled a goal back on 56 minutes, but Spurs soon restored their three-goal cushion when Brooke found Edinburgh in the box, the latter showing great composure to shrug off the home side’s defensive efforts and slot the ball home.

Spurs goalkeeper Gareth Howells was forced to back-pedal and tip the ball over the bar following a decent effort from one of Buntingford’s attackers.

Howells reacted well to deny Buntingford again following a close range shot on 82 minutes, but a home striker was on hand to net the rebound as the hosts completed the scoring.

Spurs Legends: Gareth Howells, Paul Miller, Tony Galvin, John Lacy, Stuart Nethercott, Justin Edinburgh, Garry Brooke, Andy Edmonds, Mark Stimson, Micky Jarrett, Mark Falco. Subs: Trevor Wilkinson, Steve Johnston, Rhys Howells.
