Edgar Davids believes we have every reason to go into the new season in a positive frame of mind after we completed pre-season with victory against Real Sociedad on Saturday.

The 2-1 success meant a second successive unbeaten pre-season schedule, with seven wins and one draw, and Edgar feels that the high-class of opposition we have encountered over the summer has left us in optimistic mood going into our opening Premiership fixture of the season away at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

"I don't think we could have hoped for a better pre-season,” reflected the Dutch midfield man. “We won almost every game except one which we drew so that is very good.

"The new signings have settled very well and they have already left their mark so I am very hopeful for the rest of the season.

"We have lost the likes of Michael Carrick and Mido, but instead of that we have Dimitar Berbatov who is strong on the ball and very skilful and we have Didier Zokora and Tom Huddlestone so I think we are looking good.

“I am happy that the season is approaching and we can go and start again. I think everyone knows how difficult it is to play Bolton away, as it is always physical, but we will be ready."
