EARNING OUR SPURS

Anthony Gardner says we'll have to earn the right to play against Everton tonight - as we try to repeat last season's fine win at Goodison Park.

The 1-0 victory last April was widely-regarded as our best away performance on our way to fifth in the Premiership last term and the defender, who played in that win, would welcome a repeat.

"It's always a tough one but we're capable of going there and winning," said 'TG', who impressed so much in Sunday's FA Cup win at Fulham. "I felt last season Everton was our best away performance and you could tell the lads knew it and their manager said we deserved it as well. More of the same would be nice!

"It took a lot of hard work before we could play our football there last season and they are a team who play at a high tempo, get their tackles in, get the ball forward and use the channels with the pace of Johnson always a danger. They use their strengths to good effect.

"We like to play football and want to get it down and play but you have to earn that right at Goodison, so if that means a battle for 30 minutes, the first half or the first hour, you have to do it to get a base to go and play football.

"We've had a bit of a blip in the league, maybe we should have picked up points in certain games but we're all looking to bounce back in the league and after getting a good result at Fulham, we'll look to build on it."
