The midfielder’s reputation grew further in 2004-05 after he was named the best player outside of the Premiership by 4-4-2 magazine and won a place in the PFA’s Championship XI for the season.
The 22-year-old (pictured left with Rohan Ricketts) played 47 games for Reading last term and summer recruits Tom and Aaron both played against him for Derby County and Leeds United respectively.
“He’s a very good player and he’s performed consistently well for Reading,” said Tom. “There was speculation about him leaving this summer but it looks like he’s staying and I’m sure he’ll have another good season."
Aaron backed up Tom's words. “I played against him at Elland Road and you could see what a good player he is. He gets on the ball, has good movement and energy. He passes the ball well and rarely gives it away.
“Reading are a strong team, they like to play a lot of channel balls and they are a decent side.”
Tom added: “Reading are very well organised at the back and in midfield they’ve got Sidwell and Harper who like to get on the ball. When we played them they also had two quick, strong forwards who were quite athletic. Overall, a very good outfit.”
Tom Huddlestone and Aaron Lennon have sung the praises of Steve Sidwell ahead of Saturday’s friendly at Reading.
