Dream come true

Jon Obika has described his full First Team debut as a ‘dream come true' after an impressive performance on Thursday night.

The 18-year-old striker played 90 minutes of our UEFA Cup Round of 32 second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk at White Hart Lane.

It came as just reward after his 14 goals have helped our Under-18 side to the top of their league and the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup this season.

Nonetheless, the reality of being named in the starting line-up for a senior game was still an unbelievable feeling for young Jon.

He said: "It was a dream come true for me to make my full debut at White Hart Lane - I was delighted.

"I found it a really good experience. Harry [Redknapp] gave me a lot of confidence before the game by telling me to go out and do what I do week in, week out for the Under-18s. I just did my best.

"When the team-sheet was put up on the dressing room wall and I was in it, I had to look at it a few times because I couldn't believe it!

"The reception from the fans was fantastic and I couldn't have imagined it to be any better. They were cheering us on and definitely gave me a confidence boost.

"My parents were in the crowd along with my brothers and sisters, so I am sure they will all be happy for me.

"Being around the First Team has been a great experience overall because they're great lads who always give you encouragement, and I've loved that."

And he had his chances make the occasion even more special and fire us into the next round of the competition.

But it wasn't to be against the Ukrainians, and Jon added: "We worked hard and tried to press them, but at the end of the day Shakhtar won through. We definitely gave a good account of ourselves."
