Our Spurs XI side lost their unbeaten tag in pre-season after conceding two late goals in Wednesday night's friendly at Dover Athletic.

Paul Stalteri played 57 minutes in his first start since damaging his ankle at our training camp in France and came through unscathed in what turned into a tough work-out.

Anthony Gardner, Reto Ziegler and Tom Huddlestone also trotted off after 57 minutes with Wayne Routledge departing at half-time. Unfortunately Academy striker Terry Dixon, handed his starting chance, trudged off early complaining of a sore knee.

Jamie O'Hara's clean strike palmed away by home hero Darren Smith was the highlight of a scrappy first half that eventually warmed up in the last 10 minutes.

Radek Cerny had to be on his toes to tip over Byron Walker's drive and the home side went closer still when Nick Humphrey guided his header over from close range.

We soon hit back though as Gardner and Ziegler struck the woodwork before Smith produced the save of the match to turn away Huddlestone's goalbound chip from the edge of the box. As the half finished with a flourish, Huddlestone planted a header over from close range.

The inevitable substitutions interruped the flow of the game in the second half although we might have gone ahead when Dover's second half keeper Glen Knight denied Andy Barcham and Leigh Mills was inches away from Phil Ifil's volley across goal.

The home side were always in it though and after seeing a goal disallowed, took the lead with nine minutes remaining. A free-kick came in from deep on the right touchline, found its way to James Dryden and he just managed to squeeze his shot across Cerny and into the far corner.

With two minutes left, Hogg's free-kick from the left diverted off Charlie Daniels to leave Cerny stranded and secure the win for the home side.

KEY ACTION FROM THE CRABBLE ATHLETIC GROUND...

6mins: SUB - SPURS. Maghoma for Dixon.

10mins: SAVE. Ziegler squared ball for O'Hara to unleash drive from 20 yards that Smith did well to palm out.

11mins: Browne fine cross from the right met by Walker, decent header down but comfortable save for Cerny diving to his left.

18mins: Great tackle from Lee as Walker threatened to break through on Cerny.

20mins: O'Hara hit free-kick into defensive wall from 20 yards.

35mins: Ifil dug out good cross from left touchline but Routledge could only float header over.

36mins: SAVE. Walker picked up Rogers' half-cleared corner 20 yards out, controlled and hit rising shot from 20 yards that Cerny tipped over at full stretch.

38mins: CHANCE. Spiller's corner missed clutch of bodies at the near post and bounced up kindly for Humphrey, six yards out, header over.

41mins: WOODWORK. Ziegler's corner went all the way to Lee at the far post, he beat his man and clipped lovely cross in that Gardner headed against the post from eight yards.

42mins: Routledge curled free-kick high and wide from 20 yards.

44mins: WOODWORK/SAVE. Ziegler into box, angle narrowing all the time but managed to get shot on target that came back off the upright, ball came out to Huddlestone who left one defender on the floor before attempting chip from 18 yards that Smith did superbly to tip away.

44mins: CHANCE. From O'Hara's corner, Huddlestone charged in to meet ball eight yards out but banged header over.

64mins: Maghoma's cross from the right volleyed back into the danger area by Ifil and Mills inches away from what would have been certain goal.

68mins: GOAL DISALLOWED. Rogers' long throw met by Tyne at near post, bit of a bundle, flick header looped into back of net but foul already given.

81mins: GOAL - DOVER. Free-kick from Dover's right found its way to Dryden at far post, did well to turn shot back across goal, Cerny managed to get a hand to it but couldn't keep it from nestling in far corner.

88mins: GOAL - DOVER. Own goal, as it turned out, as Hogg's whipped in free-kick from the right deflected off Daniels and left Cerny completely stranded.
