May marks the 25th anniversary of our 1984 UEFA Cup success. And the club will mark the occasion with a special dinner on May 19 that will also pay tribute to our victorious 1972 squad.
The May issue of hotspur magazine looks back on two great nights of European action - and speaks to the players involved.
Former skipper Alan Mullery, who was carried round White Hart Lane with the giant trophy by the supporters back in 1972, remembers it like yesterday and pays tribute to the Spurs fans.
"They were really up for it and we didn't want to let them down," he recalls.
Two-goal marksman Martin Chivers loved every round and every game. "They were the true glory nights," he says.
Fast forward to 1984 and hero of the night, Tony Parks. Our current goalkeeping coach excelled in the penalty shoot out but admits, with a smile, that the crucial Anderlecht penalty did not test him to the height of his abilities !
"It was the worst penalty in the world, a shocker," recalls a modest but grateful Parks.
Graham Roberts, captain and inspiration that night, will never forget it all. "That night will live with me for the rest of my life," he says.
Re-live it all again with the May issue of our official magazine, hotspur - a must for all Spurs fans.
