Doors open to London’s new outstanding educational opportunity

The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham (LAET), a new outstanding educational opportunity for young Londoners, has opened its doors.

The new state-funded sixth-form will bring expert teaching from some of the country’s top independent schools to young people in one of the capital’s most underprivileged areas.

A partnership between Highgate School and the Club, providing a state-of-the-art facility on the site of our new stadium development scheme, LAET opens with 127 Year 12 students with recruitment ongoing for the next academic year.

The Club is the school’s principal business sponsor, providing financial support, as well as the school premises and facilities management.

LAET is based on the successful model of the first LAE in Stratford, which earned the title ‘Eton of the East End’ thanks to collaboration with top public schools, including Eton itself, while prioritising local students most likely to benefit from an academically-rigorous curriculum and those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

Similarly, renowned independent schools including Alleyn's, Chigwell, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’, Harrow, John Lyon, Mill Hill, North London Collegiate, St Albans and St Dunstan’s and have come on board as partners at LAET in the hope enabling Tottenham’s brightest students to progress to leading Universities.

Of the 127 new students at LAET, 75 are from within three miles of the school and 86 per cent of the GCSE grades with which they arrive are A*-B.

The curriculum will focus on facilitating and challenging A-Level subjects which offer the greatest opportunities for access to the world’s top universities and employers.

“Alongside this, students will receive exceptional support for their university applications, provided by our partner schools with their track record of academic success and world-class university destinations.”
