The young Irish international has impressed since taking a new role in a central defensive three alongside Sol Campbell and Chris Perry.
In his first game he scored against Newcastle, he followed up with the winner at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup and has now helped us to three successive clean sheets.
But that record will come under scrutinee against West Ham’s dynamic duo Frederic Kanoute and Paolo Di Canio at Upton Park.
The pair were outstanding in the Hammers’ 1-0 win at Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday — Di Canio netting the late winner.
Doherty admitted: "I haven’t really faced what you would term a tough forward line and Di Canio and Kanoute looked a real handful at Old Trafford.
"They are different to each other. On the ball they are both brilliant but Kanoute has more of a physical presence and Di Canio has the pace and cleverness.
"We’ll have to be wary of both of them. No-one goes to West Ham and has an easy ride. We’ve kept three clean sheets and if we can do that again we’ll have a chance of nicking something."
