The big defender has been out since breaking his leg against Torquay United in the Worthington Cup back in September.
But that's just about the only good news on the injury front as Dean Richards and Ledley King join Neil Sullivan, Stephen Carr, Steffen Freund, Goran Bunjevcevic and Les Ferdinand on the missing list.
A virus has also hit Ben Thatcher, Steffen Iversen and Anthony Gardner this week while Mauricio Taricco serves the last of his five-match suspension.
Boss Glenn Hoddle revealed at Spurs Lodge this afternoon: "Gary Doherty's back in the squad but we're down to 16 players. No-one else is coming back.
"Dean Richards is out, Ledley King is struggling, 50-50, same as Steffen Iversen - he's in bed with flu and hasn't trained today.
"We've had a bit of a virus go through the camp. Anthony Gardner has suffered with it as well but he's managed to have a light session today.
"Doc's had a few reserve games but he's not quite match fit at the moment, so that's a concern.
"He'll get there eventually but this has come a bit quick. We've had to put him back in this weekend though because we've no other options.
"It's great to see him back and I'm delighted to see him back.
"He's worked extremely hard, he's had his ups and downs during the year through his rehabilitation but he's had four reserve games and got through them."
Gary Doherty is back in the squad after a seven-month absence for Saturday's visit of West Ham.
