Doc's a glad Hatter

Posted on 7 August 2001 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Time has clearly flown by for Gary Doherty since his move to the Lane from Luton Town.
He says it hardly seems five minutes ago that he was building his reputation with the Hatters in Division Two. In fact, it is fully 17 months since we paid £1million for the versatile Irishman.
It was a million well spent. ‘Doc’ has been a valuable member of the squad since January, made 29 appearances last season and has been part of Mick McCarthy’s Irish plans since last summer. He now has eight full caps.
Gary, who played over 50 games for Luton between 1997-2000, returns to Kenilworth Road for tonight’s friendly admitting: “It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was there.
“It will be nice to go back, to see all my former coaches and team-mates again, I’m looking forward to it.
“All the coaches are still there apart from the manager and assistant manager. I can’t wait to see all the lads again. I’m still in contact with them and it will be nice to go and play against them.”
He is well placed to mark the differences between divisions. “There is a huge difference between the calibre of player,” he explained. “In the Premiership you can give a player one chance and it’s usually in the back of the net, so you have to concentrate more.
“It’s something I’ve grown accustomed to and I think I’ve got used to it now.
“Things have gone well for me since the start of this year. I’ve settled well and I can’t wait for the start of the season.”
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
