'Doc' evidently enjoyed the experience and is yet another to remark about what a 'clever' player the veteran striker is.
"I've maybe the odd ten minutes here and there up front with him, but I don't think we've ever started together," commented Gary.
"I enjoyed it, he is such a clever player.
"His energy is the main thing I couldn't believe. You always expect his cleverness and his touches, but his energy was unbelievable.
"Everyone knows he is one of the cleverest players in the league and he is a massive attribute for us.
Gary added that the bonus of playing over 80 minutes at the Valley is that it didn't take its toll on him after not starting a first team game for a year.
"I'm happy to play that long and get through it and still feel really fit at the end of the game."
Gary Doherty said he couldn't believe the energy of Teddy Sheringham after his first start in a forward position alongside the skipper at Charlton.
