Doc keen for Robbie's return

Posted on 2 April 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Goal hero Gary Doherty says he'll move aside to accomodate team-mate Robbie Keane as Ireland prepare to face Albania tonight.

Robbie did not travel to Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier in Georgia following the death of his father last week.

So Gary partnered Damien Duff up front and bagged the vital winner just four minutes from time to put Ireland's campaign back on track.

However, Robbie has now met up with the squad for the clash in Tblisi and it is expected that boss Brian Kerr will favour returning to the Keane/Duff pairing.

Although determined to play, big Doc takes a realist's view of the situation.

"First and foremost I'm an Irish supporter and I know that Robbie is one of our best players, so I'm going to be as happy as any of the supporters just to see him come back," he said. "I'll happily move aside if that needs be."

However Doc, Ireland's top scorer in the qualifying group so far, will have to shake off a bruised ankle to feature against Albania.

He is expected to be fit though and could join Spurs team-mates Steve Carr and Robbie in the side.
