Digger's Diary

Posted on 2 January 2004 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

I CAN'T deny there's a smile on my face again. Training has gone well this week and I can finally say I'm looking forward to Saturday. I'm hoping to be on the bench against Crystal Palace and kick on from there. I haven't actually played for Spurs since August and that feels like a hell of a long time. I cannot wait to be involved again. Obviously it will take a few weeks to get back into the team and get my match fitness back but just to be involved again will be great.

I'VE MISSED everything about playing. I've missed training every day and the games. Football is what I do. Whenever any footballer is injured they would say exactly the same and it's really given me the hunger now to get back and do well. Once I get my match fitness back I'm sure I'll feel a lot fresher as well. I'm still finding training quite tough but the more training and games I play I'm sure the better I'll feel. I felt I faded last season and it will be nice to finish strong this time around. It's the first long-term injury I've had and after playing a lot of games, perhaps my body needed the break but now I'm desperate to get back.
THE FA CUP gave me one of the best memories of my career so far. In my early days at the club I came off the bench early against Stockport County, scored two goals and that's where it all started for me. That was back in February 2001. Hopefully I'll be able to come on and do something similar in the FA Cup on Saturday.
I DON'T really know too much about Palace but I think they like to get the ball forward early and that's something we'll work on. They have a few players people will know - Hughes, Shipperley, Freedman up front is a good player and of course Kit Symons, someone I know very well through Wales. It will be a break from the Premiership for us, that pressure will be off a little and it would be nice to get a good win and a good performance under our belts to take back into the Premiership and Birmingham next week.
SUMMING UP, 2003 has been a disappointing year for me overall. I've had the injury and we had the bad finish to last season and the bad start to this season. Then there was the disappointment of missing out on the Euro 2004 play-offs for Wales and the lads not getting through to the finals. It hasn't gone well at all really. I've not even played a lot of golf! I supppose the only positive thing for me personally is that I've managed to get over this injury. Suffice to say, I'm looking forward to 2004. Hopefully it will be a lot better for me and for the club. I just want to play again, help the team play well again and get out of our current situation.
I'D like to finish by wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Thanks for your support and here's to 2004!

All the best,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Simon
