Digger's Diary

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

AT LAST! I started training on Monday and it's great to be back out there with the boys. It's a case of getting fit now and hopefully in three or four weeks I'll be there or there-abouts.
BASICALLY, I went to see a hip specialist and he said I've got a bit of bone that is coming off my hip. It's something I could of had it since I was born and I might have disrupted it in some way. He injected between the bones to make it more comfortable and that's it really. He said if it was still painful to go and see him again. At the moment, it's okay. If it felt worse straight away it might be a problem but I've knocked it a few times and although I've felt it, it doesn't feel any worse. It's just great to be back in training and I can't wait to get back out there for Tottenham.

THE WORLD Cup draw was fantastic. If you don't know, Wales are in the same group as England and Northern Ireland to qualify for Germany in 2006. I've got to say, if I play in the England games, they will be the only games that would make up for missing the Euro 2004 play-offs. I was so disappointed to miss those games but hopefully if I'm fit, playing well for Tottenham, then I'll be in the frame and those games are just about as big as it gets for Wales. We started Euro 2004 really well and should have qualified really. The last time we fielded our strongest team was against Italy and that win showed what we're capable of. Since then we've had injuries and suspensions but no excuses, we should have made it - we had the opportunity. We'll have to be up for every game and there are four massive games against the Home Nations. There are teams in there like Azerbaijan, who we beat in Euro 2004 qualifying and although they aren't easy games, you'd like to think we won't slip up against now. I can't wait for that to start.
ROBBIE Keane's on fire at the moment. I've been out there again for the last couple of days and he looks so sharp in training. It was a great hat-trick in the win against Wolves, an excellent header from Fredi and a rocket from Stephane. We've got to carry it on now.
IT'S been close at Newcastle in the last couple of seasons. We won there a couple of seasons ago and were unlucky last season when we had a few chances but didn't capitalise. I've said for a few weeks now that we're looking much tighter at the back and things are starting to come together. Okay, we conceded a poor goal against Wolves and made a mistake against City, but that will happen. You'd almost rather see goals from mistakes rather than teams getting in behind you regularly. We certainly look more solid.
GARY SPEED will no doubt be lining up against us for Newcastle on Saturday and he's been a great captain for Wales. All the lads really respect him and he's great in the dressing room. I don't think there is anyone out there more suited to that role than him. Hopefully he'll stay on and the World Cup campaign might well be his last.
All the best,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Simon
