Digger's Diary

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

WE ALL knew the first half wasn't good enough at Manchester City on Sunday. When you start a game like that it's so hard to snap out of it and you can't wait for half-time. We got in, regrouped, the manager got hold of us and said it wasn't good enough and that it was pretty embarrassing. We didn't want to go out of the cup like that. We went out and straight from the off got at them. We certainly deserved a draw on the second half performance.
I'D LIKE TO thank the fans - they were brilliant on Sunday. It's so good to have the fans right behind you and even when City scored and we weren't playing that well, they continued to support us. We came out for the second half, took a look over there and knew we couldn't let them down. They were fantastic.

IT'S DIFFICULT when you are playing wide in a 4-4-2 system when the team isn't playing well or getting hold of the ball. It's difficult to get involved and that was the situation I found myself in on Sunday. We had a couple of injuries to deal with at half-time, the manager changed it about, moved me centrally with Michael Brown and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We both had plenty of energy to get forward and get around the pitch. I thought we played very well for the first 20 minutes of the second half. We knocked the ball around well and were camped in their half. The only disappointing thing was that we didn't get another goal.
IT WAS great to see Gary Doherty on the scoresheet at City. He's come through a tough time at the club after starting his career so well here. He scored a few important goals, I remember one in the semi-final against Arsenal but then he broke his leg. It's been tough for him since but David Pleat has showed faith in him and he's arguably been our best player over the last few weeks. He's playing well and everyone's delighted for him because he's such a great lad.
YOU ALWAYS try to get around a player in that situation and keep his spirits up but it's difficult, you don't know quite how they'll react. Doc is always a cheerful guy anyway, he always believed in his ability and just waited for his chance. It all turns around in football if you stay patient and keep working hard. Doc did that and he's reaping the rewards now.
FULHAM had had our number recently after we did so well against them a couple of seasons back. They are a good side and they are doing well. Chris Coleman has got them playing a system similar to how we play for Wales, a 4-5-1 system and I think they are probably a better side away from home. They are a difficult team to break down and they like to play on the break. I'm sure they will miss Louis Saha. Playing that 4-5-1 system, he was perfect for them up front because he's such a threat in behind teams. It will be difficult but if we can pick up where we left off at City we'll be alright. We just want the run to continue.
CHRIS COLEMAN was great with me when I made it into the Welsh squad. I remember when I was first called up, when I got to the hotel he was in the bar, he called me over for a couple of drinks and that's how I got introduced into the squad. He wasn't captain but he was high up in the pecking order of the squad, a very senior member and he was a great lad, really funny around the dressing room and it was a great shame the way his playing career ended. As far as his management style is concerned, I'm sure he'll try to create a good, hard-working atmosphere around the club and from what I've been told, it's exactly that.
All the best,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Simon
