Digger's Diary

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

MY SHIN problem is easing down a bit so hopefully I'll be able to start training again over the weekend and into next week. Basically, I've got a thicker bone than I should have in my shin and it doesn't take shock as well when I'm running. I usually feel it in pre-season but we've had such a busy spell in January that it's come up again. As I said though, hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a problem - I don't want to miss more football than I have to.
NEWCASTLE are next on Sunday and that means my Welsh team-mates Gary Speed and Craig Bellamy at the Lane. I can't speak highly enough of Gary. For Wales, he's been a fantastic captain and a fantastic player. He's been inspirational. When I first got into the squad he was someone I looked up to and a great man on and off the pitch. It's the same for Newcastle and all the teams he's played for. He was very young when he won the championship with Leeds and it says a lot about him that he was so involved in that over 10 years ago. I've watched all the internationals and he's been playing for as long as I can remember. He must be right up there in regards of most caps for Wales as well. He's had a great career and is very important to Newcastle and Wales.

WHEN I'm asked about Gary's qualities, I say simply that he's an all-rounder. He's got a very good pass and although people might not see that, when you play with him you appreciate it. He has a great engine, is still fit even though he's now at the back end of his career and everyone knows he's great in the air. He's such a danger from set-pieces and crosses. He scores his fair share of goals as well. He's got everything really.
BELLERS is a great player. His game has gone to another level since he's been at Newcastle. He's one of the best strikers in the Premiership on his day, lightning quick and he has a great partnership with Shearer. We'll have to look out for them both. Shearer can do it all and is a great outlet, when you are under pressure you can knock the ball up to him and he'll then find Craig in a dangerous area. With his pace, few defenders will beat him to the ball and a lot of their attacks start from there.
IT WILL be a difficult game after they beat Real Mallorca so well in the UEFA Cup on Thursday night but we're back at home, we've scored goals at home and we have every reason to be confident.
All the best,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Simon
