IT'S BEEN a busy and somewhat disappointing week but I'm optimistic and can't wait for Saturday's clash against Leeds United.
I thought we stood up to the physical test at Birmingham, went after them in the second half and, at the end of the day, a harsh penalty decision cost us.
We did well but didn't get the goal we deserved. Robbie had a chance, Bobby came on, looked sharp and had a couple of headers and it was encouraging for an away performance. We're all geared up for Leeds now.
The overall feeling was disappointment at Birmingham, definitely, because results are the most important thing. It was enjoyable in the second half but the result is all that matters really.
I came back on the team bus, went home, got changed into my Welsh gear and went straight to our hotel in Cardiff as we prepared to go out to Belgrade to play Serbia and Montenegro.
I had a warm down on Sunday with the rest of the lads, trained Monday morning in Cardiff and we then flew out to Belgrade on Monday afternoon. We trained Tuesday morning and it was really hot out there, so we rested for the rest of the day, had a meeting Tuesday night and played Wednesday.
It was very similar to Saturday at Birmingham in many ways in that we felt that it was a good performance without getting a result. We came in at half-time and I couldn't see us losing, but we lost to another debatable goal.
Looking back, we have to be positive. If someone had said after five games we'd be two points clear at the top of the group, we'd have taken it. We've got Italy away next which is going to be the biggest game ever. It's only just over two weeks away but I'll put that to the back of my mind now and concentrate on Spurs - I'd love to go into that game with a few wins under my belt.
We got back from Belgrade at half-three on Thursday morning, went back to the team hotel but I couldn't really sleep. I was just thinking 'if we'd won we'd have been nearly there' but I'm not dwelling on it now - Leeds are next.
I feel good physically and I want to get going again. When you get on a run like this, playing well but not winning, you want the next game to come as soon as possible so you can put it right. I can't wait for Saturday.
A lot has been said about Leeds but they looked pretty good against Newcastle last week.
I spoke to Craig Bellamy and Gary Speed with Wales and they said that Leeds battled really hard and that's how Peter Reid has got them playing. It's going to be tough but we're at home and I feel we're going to get a positive result and kick-start the season.
All the best,
