Andros Townsend’s second half penalty separated the sides as we emerged from the first part of our Capital One Cup semi-final with a slender 1-0 lead.
Our League One opponents made life difficult for us throughout the game, with Eric – playing at centre-back with Jan Vertonghen for the second match in a row – having to remain alert to keep them at bay.
Ultimately we go to Bramall Lane ahead in the tie, but the 21-year-old knows there’s still plenty of work to do if we’re to get to Wembley.
“It was a really tough game and fair play to Sheffield United, because they came here and made it really difficult,” he said.
“They sat back and so there was little space for us. We had to move the ball a bit quicker in the second half and I think we created a couple more chances, but it was still tough.
“Going to their place with a win and a clean sheet is important, though. Perhaps 1-0 is a dangerous scoreline but you could say 2-0 would have been a dangerous scoreline too, so that will keep us on our toes for the second leg.”
