'We have the character, we go again...' - Dier, Lloris, Son, Wanyama on West Ham

Sun 07 May 2017, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Collectively crestfallen, Eric Dier, Heung-Min Son, Victor Wanyama and skipper Hugo Lloris spoke to us after the 1-0 defeat against West Ham at the London Stadium.

It was a tough one to take. The loss ended our magnificent nine-match winning run in the Premier League - a Club record and the second-best league run in our history - and meant we missed the opportunity to cut Chelsea's lead to a point. They remain four points clear and play Middlesbrough on Monday.

We had chances in our best spell midway through the first half when Adrian somehow deflected Harry Kane's effort over the crossbar. Manuel Lanzini scored the decisive goal on 66 minutes and try as we might, we couldn't find a way through.

'It wasn't enough'
"We can all feel gutted. I'm not really pleased with the way we played this game. We didn't have the right energy especially because of the context, it's a derby and even more as it was a very important game in the title race. It was not enough. Even at 0-0 everything was possible but it wasn't enough from us. We should have increased our level collectively but we didn't do it. The right question to ask ourselves is are we capable of increasing our level, especially in the moment under pressure in a big game?"

On the end of the run...
"It is very frustrating because we made a lot of effort to arrive at this point and we don't have to forget everything we've done until today, especially in the way we played football, it was so excellent and that's why it's even more frustrating. I didn't recognise the Tottenham face, so it hurts even more."

On the match...
“We had a few chances all at once in the first half, the keeper made a couple of good saves but after that we didn't create anything really and ended up conceding a very sloppy goal and after that, it was difficult. I think we approached the game well, we just lacked a bit of intensity and decisiveness at times and we didn't create enough chances for the possession we had.”

'It wasn't to be'
"We're very disappointed because we had a great chance to put pressure on Chelsea. We tried everything but sometimes it's not your day. That's football. We had chances to score, we didn't and they got ahead. We didn't give up, we tried everything but it wasn't to be."

Moving forward...
"It's such a difficult night for everyone, the fans as well. We have to learn from this situation. We're a strong team but teams are going to play like this against us and we know it won't be easy for us. We have to look forward."

On the match...
"They got one chance and scored and that decided the game. That's football. We couldn't find a goal, we created some chances but we couldn't score. We knew it would be scrappy, we knew they would sit back and defend but it is what it is and we have to recover and prepare for next week now."

'We go again'
"Everyone is very disappointed. We can't do anything now. We have to take it in and go again. We lost and we can't complain too much. Yes, it's tough to take but we need to get back into it and go again. We have the character and we have to continue, we have to keep going."
