And the popular midfielder is determined to break his goalscoring duck - citing that he wants to score ‘three or four goals’ next time around.
The Ivory Coast international was an instant hit with fans with his displays full of energy and his regular bursts forward from his deeper midfield role. He was quickly appointed a song, a version of the Black Lace party classic ‘Do The Conga’ that went ‘Do, Do, Do, Didier Zokora…’ - and he loved it.
Indeed, Didier was quick to point out that the ease in which he settled into the club last summer and the reaction of the fans towards him helped immensely as he adapted to his new surroundings.
Reviewing his first season, Didier smiled: “I’m happy because I played a lot of games in my first season and that is a good thing.
“It was difficult to start with because I wasn’t used to the game in England, I wasn’t confident but the manager, the players and the fans all gave me that confidence.
“The first season is very difficult for players to come into the Premier League whether they are from France, Spain or Germany. For me, it’s the best championship in the world. “The game is very quick, aggressive, physical and there were no surprises for me there. I wanted to play in England because it suits my qualities. I needed confidence and I’ve got that now.
“I thought I improved and that’s what everyone has told me. Now I must try to get better again.
“Next season I’m sure I will be better. Now I know the Premier League. The first season isn’t easy but every week I played, I watched, I learned. Now I’m very, very confident. I want to score three or four goals as well.
“I’d love to score in front of our fans, that would mean a lot to me.”
Didier Zokora is confident he’ll kick on in the Barclays Premier League next season after the experiences of his first campaign in England.
