Christian Ziege believes Dietmar Hamann is the key to Liverpool's recovery and future success.
The German midfield enforcer returned to the Reds' line-up after injury in November - they have lost just one game in nine since.
He should be sitting in front of what is always a formidable defensive line-up at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
"I would say, and I'm just saying this because he's a German, but I think Didi Hamann is a vital player for Liverpool," said Christian, who joined us after a season at Anfield. "They missed him at the start of the season.
"He gives the team the right balance and even if you don't see him a lot, he's sitting in front of the back four and is a very important man not just for Liverpool but for Germany as well.
"If you see him play, he's such an intelligent player. Liverpool are coming back now and if they had a better start, the would have been playing for more now."
Despite Liverpool's defensive qualities, Christian is confident we can stretch our own run of form.
He added: "I think because we are a footballing side we have the chance to maybe outplay Liverpool.
"I think Liverpool's strength is the defence but it will be difficult because Hamann is back there. They always defend well. Never mind, we will have chances and if we take one or two, who knows?"
