Danny Rose feels the competition from Ben Davies for the left-back role in the team is bringing the best out of him this season.

Danny has started 15 matches so far this term including 13 in the Premier League with Ben lining-up in 16 games in all competitions.

The pair have shared duties over the festive period with Danny starting at Leicester, Ben against United and Danny back in the team and a goalscorer in the 5-3 victory over Chelsea on New Year's Day.

"There is a lot of competition for places at the moment," said Danny. "I can only speak for myself but that has brought a new side out in me this season. I’m hoping to improve every game I play.

"Chelsea was a brilliant result for us. You feared the worst when they went 1-0 up because we started the game very well but the character we showed to come back and score five goals against the title contenders was a fantastic response. It shows how far we’re coming along now."

Next up is the first step on this season's FA Cup path with a trip to Burnley in the third round on Monday night.

"It will be tough at Turf Moor, for any team to score twice against City at the Etihad has to be taken seriously," added Danny, referring to Burnley's 2-2 draw at City on Sunday. "It’s going to be a difficult game for us and we’ll prepare thoroughly for it.

"I’d like to think it’s exciting times for us. We’ve an FA Cup tie at Burnley on Monday, Palace and then there’s the prospect of going to Wembley (we play Sheffield United over two legs in the semi-final of the League Cup last this month).

"Everyone is looking forward to that but it’s one game at a time and that’s Burnley on Monday."
