Dele to start against APOEL - Mauricio

Tue 05 December 2017, 15:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Dele Alli will start against APOEL in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The manager will make changes with first place in Group H secured after outstanding performances against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund and sees our final group match as the ideal opportunity for players to show they are ready to challenge for a regular spot in the first team.

Speaking to the media after training on Tuesday, Mauricio wouldn’t be drawn into which players would be involved or rested, apart from Dele.

“We are going to rest some players, of course,” he said. “We are going to rotate the starting 11 but Dele is going to play. He missed three Champions League games because he was banned (for our first three group matches) and he’s fresh to play.”

Speaking to Spurs TV earlier, Mauricio told us: “Some players will have the possibility to play and show they can help the team in the future and fight to be a regular.

“We’re going to play with a strong team. It’s important that everyone takes the game seriously and it’s a good opportunity to show your condition, your quality and knock on the door saying ‘I’m here, I’m ready’ if you want to be a regular in the first team. It’s a good opportunity and we want to finish in a good way.”

Mauricio also confirmed that development squad players Luke Amos and Kazaiah Sterling will be in the squad.
