'It's been emotional' - Dele, Serge and Sonny on Vitality victory

Mon 12 March 2018, 16:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Dele Alli gave an insight into the recovery process after Juventus and the resolve that drove the team to come from behind to beat Bournemouth 4-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday 'the competition doesn't wait' and the players were initially hit by a whirlwind from Bournemouth.

Junior Stanislas hit the crossbar before opening the scoring and it took until midway through the half for us to start turning the tide.

We then lost Harry Kane to injury but when serious questions were asked, the team answered in style.

Dele levelled on 35 minutes, Heung-Min Son made it 2-1 (62 minutes) and then 3-1 (87) before Serge Aurier, who set up the first goal, scored the fourth from fellow full-back Kieran Trippier's assist in added time.

The result stretched our current unbeaten run to 12 matches in the Premier League and lifted us over Liverpool into third - next up in the PL, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 1 April.

Here's what Dele, Serge and Sonny had to say...

Dele

Everyone was so upset after the defeat against Juventus, talk us through then to now...
Dele: "It’s been difficult. We were all upset after the game, very emotional. We know it’s important to finish the season strong. In football, you don’t often have too much time between games and that’s a good thing sometimes as well because you focus on the next one, win or lose. It was all about recovery and making sure we were right for this game. It was important we stayed strong, that we stayed together with the fans as well. It was a difficult night for them as well."

On the win against Bournemouth...
Dele: "They made it very difficult for us. They are a great team and we knew they would be a threat. They are fit, very strong and started the game very fast. Maybe we weren’t as switched on as we needed to be and they scored the first goal. We knew we needed to score the next goal and thankfully I managed to put it away. It was a strong performance. It was important that we stayed patient, kept moving the ball and tried to break them down which was difficult but it shows a lot of character from us. At 2-1 we could have gone defensive but we kept going and that says a lot about how we play."

Serge Aurier

On our approach and recovering from 1-0 down...
Serge: "We wanted to play well after Juventus. We conceded the first goal and that wasn’t easy for the team. It was a brilliant reaction. We had such a good mindset because it's very difficult here and now we focus on the FA Cup and the Premier League for the final weeks of the season."

On his performance - one goal, one assist...
Serge: "I'm so happy because for their goal, I didn’t have a good position, so to get the assist was great for me. Then my second goal in the Premier League! I followed the action and when I had the chance, I headed home. I’m happy for the team because as I said, after the Champions League, the reaction was brilliant."

Heung-Min Son

On recovering after Juventus...
Sonny: "The first thing is my smile is back! I was so sad after Juventus because we deserved more. Today, we deserved three points. We bounced back and as I said, this is a strong team, a strong mentality. After a disappointing result, we come back stronger."

On the game...
Sonny: "No game in the Premier League is easy and you need to be ready from the first minutes, if not, you know it’s going to be a difficult game. We’re a good team but if you go 1-0 down it’s difficult. I think we can learn something from today and Wednesday. We can learn every day, that’s important. We bounced back strongly. It was important to win again."

On his goal - and his form...
Sonny: "It’s not just about me, without team-mates I’m nothing. The supporters, my team-mates, the coaching staff, they all help me. I don’t just score goals for myself, I score for Spurs, for my country...I just enjoy wearing a Tottenham shirt every day."
