The 19-year-old picked up the prize at Sunday night’s Football League Awards, held at The Brewery, London, following a fine season with MK Dons in League One.
Dele, who signed for us in January before being loaned back to the Dons for the remainder of the campaign, beat off competition from Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford and Norwich City’s Nathan Redmond to claim the award, which covers all three divisions in the Football League.
At the presentation, Dele said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to my team mates. Everything I’ve achieved this year has been down to them.
“The manager and all the staff have backed me 100 per cent and put so much faith and trust in me – and obviously I want to thank my family for all their support.
“I’m not going to get too carried away, I’m just going to keep working hard, keep my head down, be professional on and off the pitch and do as well as I can.”
The award caps off a fine weekend for Dele, who netted his 15th goal of the season in MK Dons’ 6-1 thrashing of Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon.
