'It's crazy how it only ended 1-0!' Kane, Dele, Trippier on derby win

Sun 11 February 2018, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

There was a theme running through the players' post-match analysis after an outstanding performance and 1-0 win against Arsenal  - it should have been more.

Harry Kane's textbook header on 49 minutes ultimately won the game and the goal sparked a thrilling spell where we threatened to run riot.

Harry glanced a header just wide from six yards, Dele missed a one-on-one and Petr Cech produced a string of saves to deny Harry, Kieran Trippier, Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen.

Of course, these derby games are never quite clear-cut and at 1-0, Arsenal had a chance to snatch a late leveller in injury time only for Alexandre Lacazette to slide a one-on-one chance wide.

That was the only time Arsenal got in behind us as the efforts on goal stats rose to 18-6 in our favour - three of the Gunners' efforts arriving late in the game.

Here's what match winner Harry, Dele and Kieran Trippier had to say...

Overall thoughts...
"We definitely deserved to win. It shouldn't have been as difficult as it was at the end, we should have been cruising, three or four-nil up. It was a fantastic performance but if you don't kill off teams like this you are always going to be a bit edgy at the end. We should never have been in that position. I had a good chance and we had some clear-cut chances that we need to be more clinical with - but it an amazing header from Harry to win it. I was right behind him, he got up so well and it was an incredible header."

On results against United, Liverpool and Arsenal...
"It's been a very positive month so far. Looking at the fixtures, we knew it was going to be a tough one but we didn't get ahead of ourselves, we just focused on the next one. That's how we've approached every game. We've taken points off the teams around us and we just have to keep going. The next league game is in a couple of weeks now so we'll take the positives from this and move on."

Overall thoughts...
"It was a great game and we really played well, especially in the second half after we went 1-0 up. It's crazy how it ended 1-0, but we'll take it. In these big games, you just need that first goal and then the spaces start to open up and you get more chances. That's what happened and we should have been more clinical, we know that, but we played very well and kept them quiet until the last five minutes when they piled on the pressure. Overall, it's a great day."

On similarities between this goal and his late winner in February, 2015
"This was probably a bit harder. I was at full stretch, timed it well and it was great to see it go in. I had a few headers throughout the game and that was probably the hardest."

On results against United, Liverpool and Arsenal...
"It's massive at a big stage of our season, we've come through with flying colours. We've good momentum and the Champions League is next, we're all looking forward to that and we have to keep it going in the Premier League."

On the win...
"Yes, obviously it’s a big win. The past few games have been big with seven points out of nine. We controlled the game today and with the chances we created it could have been more than 1-0 but a clean sheet and three points is the most important thing."

On his chance, denied by Cech...
"Nearly! Either side of the keeper and maybe it would have gone in but I’m happy for Harry to score, it’s good for the lads that we’ve got a massive three points and now we look forward to Tuesday night (at Juventus)."

On our fine run of form...
"When you look at the games - United, Liverpool away and the character to come back from 2-1 down against Liverpool, obviously having missed the penalty and a minute left on the clock but great character from everyone and great character from Harry to take the second penalty as well - and another huge win today, so a massive seven points out of nine. People were taking before this little schedule but we’ve come out and we’ve done well and now we look forward to Tuesday."
