'We're a team and we wanted this win together'

Dele, Kane, Lloris, Trippier on Watford

The team’s togetherness shone through again as the players gave their views on a crucial win against Watford at Wembley on Monday night.

Dele Alli and Harry Kane scored the goals as we moved on from last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final loss against United at the same venue to secure a hard-earned victory against a Watford side that created chances but couldn’t beat Hugo Lloris.

The result didn’t just restore our five-point gap ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League, it also moved us to within a point of Liverpool in third with a game in hand on the Reds.

We now know if we manage to win our final three matches - away to West Brom on Saturday (3pm) followed by Newcastle (9 May, 8pm) and Leicester City (13 May, 3pm) at Wembley - we’ll finish at least third.

“We’re a team, everything we do - good or bad - we do together and that’s how we look at it,” said Harry.

“We're now concentrating on the three games ahead and trying to win all three. They are games we can definitely win and we want to finish as high as possible. We can finish third and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Here’s what Harry, Dele, Hugo and Kieran Trippier had to say at Wembley...

Overall thoughts on the performance...
“The performance was okay, could have been better. It was important to win. The first half was disappointing and we were lucky to be 1-0 up - that was down to Hugo.

The second half was a little better, we should have been more clinical, we had the chances...we're happy to have won but there is room for improvement.

On Hugo...
“Hugo made massive saves in the first half to keep us ahead. He's a fantastic goalkeeper. That’s what we need him to do, to save us at the right times and he did that.”

Overall thoughts...
“They had some chances, it’s true, but we scored in key moments and then tried to control the game, even if they pushed until the end. We had to keep our focus until the end but the most important thing is the three points and a clean sheet. It was very important to respond to Chelsea’s win at Swansea. Now we can look forward.”

On his performance...
“It’s football. You always try your best for the team. I’m happy that I helped the team to stay in the game but that’s part of my job and the job of my team-mates. Football is about the collective. We want success and we need all the players, not just all the players on the field but the players on the bench and out of the squad. That’s how it works in football. I’m looking forward, there are three games left and now we want to finish as high as possible in the table.”

Kieran Trippier

Overall thoughts...
“You saw in the first half we got the goal but we weren’t moving the ball quickly enough - we were moving it slowly. To be fair to Watford they played well in the first half, they had two great opportunities but Hugo came up with two fantastic saves. We knew we had to come out in the second half fast, move the ball quicker, I thought we were better in the second half but we still needed to be more clinical in front of goal. It wasn’t one of our best performances but we needed the win and we got the win, so that’s all that matters.”

Overall thoughts...
“We had to turn things around. We were all disappointed after last week's defeat. We have to focus and stay strong until the end of the season, keep fighting and picking up points. We’re a team, we all wanted to get these three points together and we did that.”
