'We're enjoying playing together' - Dele, Eriksen, Kane, Sanchez on Saints win

Wed 27 December 2017, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Dele Alli said the players are enjoying our current run of festive form after some sublime football in our 5-2 win against Southampton on Boxing Day.

Of course, all the talk was of Harry Kane's goalscoring feats afterwards but beyond that, the players spoke of a determination to start well against the Saints and to maintain a momentum over the festive period that has seen us chalk up four wins in five matches leading up to 2018.

Harry scored twice, Dele and Heung-Min Son once each as we charged into a 4-0 lead inside 52 minutes on Boxing Day.

Southampton responded either side of Harry completing his eighth hat-trick of the year with a sublime finish.

That took Harry to a record Premier League mark in a calendar year of 39 goals and took him beyond Lionel Messi in terms of goals scored for club and country from players in Europe's top leagues - Harry's 56 to Messi's 54.

It also moved him above Robbie Keane and into the Club's all-time top 10 goalscorers.

Here's what Dele, Christian Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez and Harry had to say about a Boxing Day to remember...

On the performance...
"It was a really strong performance all over the pitch - we're disappointed to concede the goals but it was a fantastic display and every player did well. It's enjoyable when you play like that, getting on the ball, creating space for each other and everyone playing the passes. It was a really enjoyable game for us. It was important that we kept getting the goals because at 2-0 you never know what’s going to happen, so it was important we got the third and the fourth and it was a great performance."

On our current form...
"We’re in good form at the moment. We don’t want to look into it too much though, we’ve just got to keep playing as we are, keep putting in performances, keep working hard for each other and that's all we can do. We’re enjoying playing together and hopefully the fans are enjoying it as well."

On his goal...
"I was happy with the finish, an accurate finish into the bottom corner. I’m not looking too much into my goals and trying to get as many goals as I can because that’s not the sort of player I am. It’s a bonus to get on the scoresheet but I just want to help the team as much as I can."

First goal key?
"We started the game well, we had the mentality to fight for the three points and after, it was more helpful for us when we scored the first goal because we opened the game. After that, we had more possession and more chances to score the goals."

Did we work to start quickly?
"Of course, everyone knows it’s better if you can open the game at the most early point possible but sometimes it’s so difficult. When you have the possibility to start quickly it is good and we had that opportunity."

On the performance...
"We were on it right from the start. It was similar to Burnley - we just continued that and it’s what we said, make those forward runs, one-twos around the box, everyone is running off the ball, unselfish runs and it makes a big difference. Getting the goal early helped and from there we dominated. It was important to finish the year strongly and we've done that so hopefully 2018 will be even better. We’ve got to keep improving, keep getting better, wins like this will always help us and we go into another busy period full of confidence."

On the game...
"I think we played very well. We pressed very high and of course they wanted to press as well so it was a very open game and luckily we were a bit sharper and a bit more clinical then they were."

What can you say about Harry?
"There’s not much is there? There’s a lot of things you can say about Harry. He’s been on a run since the year started and now to finish with the last game of the year with another hat-trick, it says everything about his year. Of course, when you have Harry in your team you know you’ll get goals."

Favourite Harry goal?
"Of course all the goals I assisted - they’re much better than the rest! But seriously, it’s an exceptional achievement what he has done this year and big applause."
