Our hot new capture is, of course, referring to his former team-mate and strike partner at West Ham - Paolo Di Canio.
The former Lazio, Juventus, Celtic and Hammers star joined Charlton on a free transfer from Upton Park in the summer.
He's featured in 18 of Charlton's Premiership games so far this season, scoring three goals in 15 starts and playing his part in the Addicks' fine campaign.
Di Canio was a huge influence as Jermain learned his trade at West Ham.
"The mad Italian!" responded Jermain when asked about Di Canio. "Paolo was great. I learned a lot off Paolo and if you don't learn off him, you've got problems.
"He is such a great player who has played for the top clubs in the world.
"Paolo is so passionate about his football. He must be 35 now but he's still going strong. He's so professional, fit and looking well. I'm looking forward to seeing him and playing against him.
"At the end of the day he's a great player and he'll never lose that."
Jermain Defoe is looking forward to facing the man he describes as 'the mad Italian' at The Valley on Wednesday night.
