The livewire striker couldn't overcome a slight knock on his knee that he picked up against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
"On Thursday we thought he might be able to play but on Friday he said he had a problem," said Head Coach Martin. "But we have Keane and Kanoute and we are very happy with that."
Meanwhile, Michael Brown was a late withdrawal because of a groin injury sustained in training on Friday.
Martin added: "Browny was injured at the last moment, he tried it in the morning but couldn't make it."
Martin Jol reported that Jermain Defoe and Michael Brown both missed Saturday's 5-2 win against Everton because of injury.
