It was so nearly a fantasy beginning for Deano, making his Spurs debut, at the Lane, against the champions.
Add to the mixer the fact that he scored and that the boys produced some of the most exhilarating football witnessed this season to storm into a 3-0 half-time lead.
Unlike the Question of Sport round, we prefer not to dwell on 'What Happened Next', but it was certainly a memorable debut for Dean.
"The first half against Man Utd," Dean chuckled sheepishly when asked for his high point.
"It was dream stuff, but obviously it came crashing down with a bit of a bang.
"I think probably that and if we had beat Arsenal at home, that would have been a high point because we deserved to win that."
Dean adds that being used to a slightly unfamiliar position will help his cause when the boys reconvene for pre-season. On arriving at the club Dean featured in the centre of a three, a new role for him but one he now relishes.
"I think there is more to come. Especially as when I came into the club the boss changed it to three central defenders and I was playing in the middle of a three. That was a new position for me as well.
"That was something I had to get used to.
"I was playing in a four and, even at Southampton when we did play a three I played on one of the sides.
"Playing in the middle was new to me and, as I got used to it, it was something I started to enjoy."
Asked to name the high point of his first season at the club, Dean Richards laughed and nominated the first half of our home encounter with Manchester United.
