Deano: Rovers in good Stead

Posted on 8 May 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Dean Richards believes we will be facing a side and a striker bang in form when Blackburn arrive at the Lane on Saturday.

The big defender, who returned to action at Villa Park last weekend, suspected Rovers might have been on the slide when they suffered three straight defeats, culminating in a 2-1 loss at home to Leeds on April 10. Since then, Graeme Souness' troops have rallied and registered four wins on the bounce to push up the table.

"They have hit form," considered Deano. "I was looking at the table four or five weeks ago and they were sliding down and were possibly going to be in trouble.

"They have done well to push up and get some good results - a couple of wins away from home too, which is important. They are in good form and have some good players, with the young lad up front from Huddersfield doing well and scoring some winning goals."

The young lad up front from Huddersfield is, of course, Jon Stead - who has netted six goals in 11 games since arriving at Ewood Park. Dean knows that our defence is in for a tough afternoon attempting to shackle the powerful 21-year-old.

"To be honest, I don't know too much about him, but I knew he was banging in the goals for Huddersfield. I watched the Fulham-Blackburn game and he played very well and took his goal well.

"He is going to be a handful, no doubt about that. He is a young'un and will be chasing everything down so it will be difficult."

Meanwhile, Dean is hoping to feature in the last two games of what he considers has been an up and down season for him. Picking up an injury during pre-season he feels cost him dear and he is hoping for better luck next time around.

"It has been up and down, the disappointing thing for me was missing pre-season as I have been playing catch-up ever since. Injuries and illness seem to come at bad times for me and it is has been a frustrating season for me.

"I want to put in a couple of good performances now and I know how important next pre-season is for me to get back to my best and play well week in, week out.

"I've felt a yard short of what I know I can do and it has been difficult at times. I am looking forward to the last two games, featuring in pre-season and then getting on with next season."
