The team failed to build on the positive results against Leeds United and Liverpool and the powerful centre-half agreed that things just did not happen for the team on the day.
"We are well aware that we didn't perform," he commented. "Everyone is down - especially after we put in two good performances. That is the problem we are trying to overcome - the inconsistency that is obviously still there.
"Going into the game everyone felt good but, speaking to a lot of the lads afterwards, they said they felt quite fatigued - the last two games have been quite physically demanding."
Dean added that the fact Fulham did not have any midweek exertions could have had some bearing on the contest.
"We're not looking for excuses, but Fulham didn't play in midweek and I think it showed, they were sharper all over the pitch."
Dean Richards pinpointed a lack of the much sought after consistency following the disappointing defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
