Steffen Iversen's clever header across goal presented Dean with the second half chance that Fabien Barthez blocked with his feet. Had the big defender scuffed or mis-hit his effort, it is unlikely the French keeper would have been able to react.
"Yes, I've not actually seen it again yet," revealed Dean. "I'm disappointed, it was more of a reaction thing - I just tried to keep it down and hit the ball properly.
"It's one of those things that, if it goes either side of the keeper, it's in."
Dean certainly made a good connection with the ball, which was primary in his thoughts in the split second he had to assess the opportunity.
"I thought I did. That was the main thing - try to connect well and keep it down. I managed to do that but unfortunately it went straight at him."
Dean Richards has yet to see a repeat of his gilt-edged chance against Manchester United on Saturday, but suspects he connected too well with the ball.
