The powerful central defender, an inspirational figure this season, revealed at Spurs Lodge on Monday that he has felt no pain from his injury for six days and a visit to the doctor today will determine whether he can re-join his teammates on the training pitch.
"It's going pretty well," said Dean. "I've had an injection in my back and haven't had any pain for the last six days.
"I'm seeing the doctor on Tuesday and he'll let me know whether I can return to training. If I get the all-clear I could be back out there by the end of the week."
Dean, so impressive when he takes to the field, has struggled with various injuries in the second half of the campaign that have proved a great frustration for him.
"It's been frustrating since around Christmas time with various injuries - this one was quite a bad one.
"I've missed about eight Premiership games this season and that is too many for my liking. I'm quite happy with how my form has been when I've played, but I want to get a consistent run together."
Dean Richards reports that his recovery from a back injury is going well and he is hoping to return to training by the end of the week.
