Dean determined to bury debut memory

Posted on 24 April 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Dean Richards takes the stance of most Spurs fans when pundits wax lyrical over last season's memorable clash against Manchester United at the Lane.

In case you've forgotton, we stormed into a 3-0 lead in the first half before United hit back with five unanswered goals and a 5-3 win after the break.

It was Dean's debut after joining from Southampton and things looked to to be going well when he headed home the first of those first half goals.

United are back at the Lane for the first time since that encounter this Sunday.

He declared: "Everyone reminds me about that game and I think the sooner I can put it to bed with a good performance against United and beat them the better.

"Everyone said it was such a great game but for me it wasn't - it was desperately disappointing.

"We got off to a great start on my debut and played so well in the first half but to lose and concede five in the second half was disastrous. For me, I just see it as a disappointment."

It is a vital encounter as United go for the title but Dean is well aware that it's a game we have to win ot hold onto any hopes of Europe.

"It's a game we need to win," he added. "We showed a lot of character after City to pick ourselves up against West Brom, especially after going behind twice.

"We're three points off Blackburn now and if we can't finish sixth, it would be nice to finish as high as possible and that could be seventh.

"We need the points, obviously United need them, but we want them as well."
