D-day for goalkeepers!

English Barclays Premiership

D-day is approaching for Ian Walker and Neil Sullivan. Walker revealed that he expects to know George Graham's decision over who is his first-choice goalkeeper after Saturday's final friendly at Vitesse Arnhem.

Summer recruit Sullivan played in our last two matches against Fulham and QPR but Walker, number one since December 1998, was back in goal for Tuesday's win at Peterborough United.

Walker suggested after last week's match at Fulham that he wouldn't be happy sitting on the bench all season. Graham then insisted at QPR on Saturday that he hadn't made his mind up.

He said at Loftus Road: "I want competition for all positions and I haven't a problem with players saying that they don't want to sit on the bench.

"I'll make a decision when the time is right and that will be before the first game of the season."

The boss reiterated at London Road that he was giving both keepers games in pre-season and would only decide for sure just before the start of the season.

Walker revealed: "I think we will definitely know next week. The manager said that he would let us know after Saturday's game. Personally I think the starting line-up at Vitesse Arnhem will probably be the team that will start against Ipswich. We'll have to wait and see."

Walker was just happy to be back out there at Posh - unfortunately, a late goal ruined our unblemished defensive record after lasting six games and 89 minutes without conceding.

Walker added: "With Neil playing the last two friendlies I was hoping to get a game, otherwise I clearly would have been struggling. It's nice to play. It feels like you haven't played for a while when you miss two games so it was great to be out there.

"I'm hopeful of getting the nod but the manager has given no indication at all. I suppose it is the same for Neil. We'll have to wait and see. I just hope to get a chance."
