The Washington-based side were visitors to the Lane in October for the Tottenham Tribute Match which they won 1-0 and we make the return trip to the RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. for a match which will see the winners lift the Capital Cup. The trophy is being established as part of a plan to match clubs from capital cities worldwide in friendly competition.
United have acquired a number of new players since their October trip to London, including Hristo Stoitchkov and Galin Ivanov, former and current Bulgarian internationals respectively, and striker Earnie Stewart, who has 85 caps for the USA and spent the last 14 season in Dutch football, most recently with NAC Breda.
The game has been organised with the assistance of Jurgen Klinsmann and his company Soccer Solutions. As well as the match, the Club's itinerary will include a series of coaching seminars in and around Washington, D.C.
The trip is part of our international development strategy which will see further international dates announced before the end of April.
The D.C. United match kicks off at 7.30pm local time on May 14. Tickets for the game range from $16-$36 and are available through TicketMaster PhoneCharge (001-202-4332-SEAT), at any TicketMaster outlet, through D.C. United (001-703-478-6600) or at www.dcunited.com.
The Club is delighted to announce that we have lined up an end of season friendly against MLS side D.C. United in the U.S.A on May 14, 2003.
