The midfielder missed the last month of the Premiership season after picking up the problem against Manchester City in April.
Darren has been running in training but he started to increase his movement in a series of exercises with physio Ally Beattie as the lads training at George Washington University on Monday night ahead of Wednesday's Capital Cup clash against DC United.
First team coach Chris Hughton confirmed: "Darren has stepped up his comeback but at this point he looks unlikely to figure against DC.
"We missed his quality at the end of the season so it's nice to see him back."
