Midfielder Darren used to play for Southampton’s deadly south-coast rivals Portsmouth before joining us almost 10 years ago.
It’s a past Saints fans have not let him forget and he’s always the target for stick when he faces his home-town team.
But this time around Darren believes he might just get away with it with the visiting fans likely to focus their boos on Glenn Hoddle!
“I've always quite enjoyed playing Southampton,” said Darren. “It’s my home town and I always enjoy playing them.
“I’m sure they all remember the fact I played for Portsmouth but that’s all part of football. But I’m sure they’ll all forget about me this time and concentrate on the manager!”
Darren hopes to play after nursing his Achilles through a tough first week of the season.
“The Achilles feels good actually,” he revealed. “It felt a bit sore after the Blackburn game and I probably wasn’t expecting to play the full game at Everton but circumstances meant I had to.
“That was a little more than I should have done but it’s settled down now and we’ll see how it is on Sunday.”
Darren Anderton says he relishes running the gauntlet of hate when he plays against Southampton.
