All four of the most recent recruits are midfield players of differing types and Glenn will certainly have options to ponder during the course of his pre-season schedule, which begins at Stevenage on Sunday.
Jamie Redknapp, Milenko Acimovic, Jonathan Blondel and Rohan Ricketts are all central players who will be targeting midfield places at some stage and Darren reasons that, should we encounter a fixture pile-up like last season, greater resourses can only help.
"You need that," pointed out Darren. "I'm not sure if we're still looking for other players or not but, around Christmas time last season, when we played lots and lots of games a bigger squad might have helped.
"It's nice that we have that now and it will create more competition."
An increased squad could mean that players who have suffered small niggly injuries due to sustained games will be able to sit out the odd game. Darren acknowledges that this could be the case, but reasons that players do not like missing games.
"All footballers want to play every game, but if it helps me or helps the team, it's great.
"From what I've seen it's looking good. Everybody knows Jamie Redknapp is a good player, Milo's come in and he's certainly got some tricks and skills so it should be interesting."
Darren Anderton is not fazed by increased competition for midfield places next season and insists it is of great benefit to the club.
