Martin Jol believes Michael Dawson will cope with the added responsibility of kicking-off the Premiership without Ledley King.

The pair forged an impressive partnership in the centre of our defence last season but skipper Ledley will miss out at Bolton as he recovers from a knee injury.

On stand-by for the World Cup in the summer, Michael's performances have been recognised with a call into Steve McClaren's first England squad for the friendly against Greece on Wednesday - he celebrated with his first goal for us and the winner against Real Sociedad on Saturday.

“Michael is young but he's a leader,” said Martin. “He knows there is a big responsibility on his shoulders because Ledley isn't there and he can cope with that.

“I remember his debut for us well at Liverpool and he's been in the team all the time after that.

“He's now in the England squad, he's our fifth England international and that's good to know. He deserves it."
