Ledley King quickly turned the spotlight on Michael Dawson after his long-awaited, successful return to action at Liverpool.
Ledley was back in the team for the first time since the win at Fulham in October and back alongside Michael in central defence at Anfield.
The pair provided an immovable defensive base alongside Younes Kaboul, Danny Rose and goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, with Sandro that extra shield, as in-form Liverpool struggled to create many clear-cut chances on Sunday.
In the end Rafa van der Vaart’s early volley and Luka Modric’s penalty in the second half secured a 2-0 win and a first win at Anfield since 1993.
The focus was very much on Ledley’s return afterwards but speaking at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday, Ledley paid tribute to the main alongside him.
“Michael has been outstanding,” said Ledley. “He always is when I play alongside him. He’s getting better and better and his game has elevated to new levels.
“It’s nice to play alongside him. I knew I would get tired during the game, that I would have spells when I would have to dig deep and it’s great to have someone like Michael there alongside you.
“I thought Danny Rose was fantastic at left-back as well, it’s great to have those fresh legs in there!”
Ledley had 48 hours to reflect on a fine win – his first at Anfield after making his Spurs debut there in 1999. “First and foremost it was great to be back playing and it’s a stadium that holds a lot of memories for me,” he added.
“It was a great team performance to get the three points.
“I feel fine today (Tuesday), a few aches and pains here and there, but that’s normal.
"I’ve done the recovery work and so far, so good. Hopefully I’ll also be involved in the final game on Sunday.”
