Daws on the opener

Michael Dawson says we'll have to be wary of facing an Everton side no doubt determined to start the campaign well on the first weekend of next season.

We face the Toffees at the Lane on the opening weekend of the Barclays Premier League’s 20th season on the weekend of Saturday, August 13 before a trip to Manchester United a week later and then City at home.

Remember, all fixtures are subject to change.

Everton finished seventh last term after another strong second half of the campaign.

But the men from the blue half of Merseyside were looking over their shoulders after winning just four matches in their opening 18.

Indeed, a late win against us at Goodison in January provided the spark for their climb up the table with only three more defeats and wins over City and Chelsea.

“It’s always tough whenever we’ve faced Everton, and always decent games, home or away,” said Michael.

“They are good team, everyone knows that and they will look to get off to a better start this time around.

“Every game in the Premier League is tough. There aren’t many games where you look at it and it’s three points guaranteed.

“There are games where you’ll think ‘hopefully we’ll get three points there’ but there is never a guarantee. Just look at our form against the bottom five teams last season and that says it all. Every game is a challenge.

“We’ll be back in July and that’s when we start preparing for Everton. That’s the game we’ll be focusing on."
