Michael Dawson did not underestimate the value of the away goal when reflecting on the 1-0 victory over Slavia Prague on Thursday.

Jermaine Jenas netted the decisive strike in the first half before Michael and his defensive colleagues stood tall in the face inevitable Slavia pressure in the second period.

"It is huge for us, to take a goal home is fantastic and we are happy, but it is only half way," said the centre half.

"Didier did superbly and laid the ball perfect for JJ. It was a great strike and he was excellent on the night and didn't stop running. That went for the whole team.

"It was a tough game and we knew it would be. When you come to places like this you expect them to make it hard for you and they did.

"It was good to get a first half goal and we said at half-time that they would come at us and they certainly did that. We had to be strong and we were.

"We'll see what happens at White Hart Lane in a couple of weeks time," added Michael, who offered his thanks for the tremendous support of the fans on the night.

"We've got to thank the fans for coming out here - they were superb and it is a big help for us."
