Now preparing for the start of his ninth season at Spurs and a professional since 2000, the skipper said there is still nothing quite like opening weekend.
"Pre-season is always a tough time, you get as many games under your belt as possible, but nothing is like the first game of the season," said Michael.
"Palace are back in the Premier League and it’s the opening day, a fixture everyone always looks forward to. I’m sure it will be a battle and we have to be ready for it. The real work starts now.
"Hopefully, it’s the start of a great season."
The squad is looking for a positive start to 2013-14.
"We didn’t start as we wanted to last season but we showed the quality and spirit to fight back, that’s never easy," added Michael. "Hopefully this time around we can get off to a flyer."
The Premier League begins on Saturday and we travel to Selhurst Park for a 1.30pm kick-off on Sunday.
