Michael Dawson described Heurelho Gomes' form as ‘unbelievable' as the keeper turned his season around.
The popular number one had a tough start to life in the Premier League but grew in stature and changed many pundits' opinions of him by the end of the campaign.
His team-mates have been full of praise for the way he came through those early problems including central defender ‘Daws', who played 17 times in front of the Brazilian international.
"Gomes was unbelievable towards the end of the season," said Michael.
"We weren't doing enough as a team to win football matches at the start of the season, but Gomes made a couple of mistakes and was unfortunately placed in the spotlight.
"He's a big character who played through injuries when it might have been easier for him to just chuck it in.
"In the end he came out on top and showed everyone what a great goalkeeper he is."
Gomes' performances earned a recall into the Brazilian squad for the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa. He has yet to appear as Brazil breezed into Thursday's semi-final against the hosts with three wins in three in the group stages. Spain take on the USA tonight (Wednesday, June 24).
