The win also moved us to within a point of third-placed Chelsea.
Michael conceded that the first half was a real test but felt we deserved the win - the task made somewhat easier by Goran Popov’s sending off minutes into the second half.
“Away games in the Premier League are never easy,” he said. “We’ve had some tough away games recently, QPR, Leeds in the FA Cup, Norwich in midweek and now West Brom, all difficult games.
“In the first half at Norwich we didn’t play as well as we would have liked but we took a point in the second half.
“When you go to West Brom, you have to weather the storm sometimes, we did that and Hugo made a couple of good saves.
“In the second half they went down to 10 men and it made the game easier for us.
“I thought we kept the ball well, passed it, kept possession – I know they were down to 10 men, but you still have to keep the ball.
“They tried to press us late on but it was another big win for us.”
Gareth Bale’s fine strike in the 67th minute secured the victory and means we’ve already matched last season’s total of away wins in the Premier League.
